After securing the signing of legendary German international Thomas Müller, MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps are set to bring in another player from European football to Canada. According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Canadian side are expected to sign Dender captain Joedrick Pupe. Losing Pupe will be a major blow for Dender as the defender was a key player for the side last season in their fight to remain in the Belgian top flight.
The 28-year-old Pupe joined the side back in the summer of 2023 from fellow Challenger Pro League side Lierse. He made 31 appearances for the side in their shock promotion season of 2023/2024. Last year the side were expected to go straight back down, but defied the odds to remain in the Belgian top flight. Pupe played 29 games for the side in all competitions, providing five assists. So far this season, he has played in all four of the sides opening games.
Vancouver Whitecaps are currently third in the MLS Western conference, with 13 wins from 25 games. With 45 points already, they could certainly finish in top spot with games in hand over both San Diego FC and Minnesota ahead of them.
