An insight into the process which ultimately led to Barcelona star Andreas Christensen being converted into a midfielder has today been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, and reveals that the idea for as much actually came from the boardroom in Catalunya’s capital.

The source in question? Deco.

As detailed by Sport, amid Xavi’s ongoing struggles to identify a requisite figure to man the base of his midfield in the thick of the struggles endured by summer signing Oriol Romeu, Barcelona’s headmaster was advised on the subject by sporting director Deco.

The Portuguese highlighted the tactical and technical qualities boasted by the aforementioned Christensen, a discussion which Xavi was very much open to.

Over the weeks that followed, the Blaugrana’s manager, in turn, discussed the subject with his coaching staff, before training the Dane up in the role, and finally unleashing him onto the pitch.

And, to the credit of Deco and Xavi alike, the move, all told, has proven to be a successful one.

Whilst the plan is still for a new pivot to be brought to the Camp Nou with a view to next season, pushing Christensen back into defence in the process, this endeavour in its entirety proved one of few success stories at Barcelona across what has been a trying season.
