It has been an emotional day for Dean Huijsen and his family as he was officially presented as a Real Madrid player in front of club members and the media today.
The 20-year-old arrived from Bournemouth for a fee of €58 million – making him the most expensive defensive acquisition in the history of the club.
Huijsen has agreed a five-year contract with the Merengues and penned his contract with Florentino Perez earlier today, following which the club president welcomed him with a hearfelt speech at his unveiling.
Following Perez’s welcome address, Huijsen himself took the centre stage and addressed those present briefly in a short but sweet speech.
The 20-year-old defender went on to thank the club, the president, and his family for all the support, before stating how Real Madrid was the club of his life and he was ecstatic to be there.
“I want to thank the president. I’ve wanted to be here since day one. From the moment Madrid called, I didn’t have eyes for another team,” said Huijsen.
“I want to thank my family, from driving every day to train, to travelling with me…. And thanks to my brothers,” he added.
Talking about his move to Madrid, Huijsen stated: “I’m coming to the best club in the world and I’m here to give everything. With humility and hopefully we can win many trophies together.
Concluding, the Spanish international said: “Madrid is the club of my life. Thank you very much. Hala Madrid.”
Soon, the youngster will speak to the media in a press conference.
