Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea is expected to stay put in Tuscany, according to reports in Italy, despite claims from UK outlets that his former club Manchester United were plotting a sensational return for the 34-year-old Spaniard.

De Gea unlikely to leave Fiorentina for Manchester United

According to reports from The Sun, United had considered a potential move to bring De Gea back to Old Trafford two years after he left as a free agent, as former Inter stopper Andre Onana continues to underwhelm between the sticks.

The reports from the UK come after an impressive individual season for De Gea with Fiorentina, which saw him make 42 appearances across all competitions, resulting in a nomination for the Serie A goalkeeper of the year award at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

De Gea’s performances also earned him a longer-term contract extension at the end of last season, which means that he is currently tied to the club for another three years, until the summer of 2028.

And, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, the three-time Manchester United player of the year has no intention of leaving Fiorentina after just one season, and is said to be enjoying his time at the Stadio Franchi.
