Alphonso Davies and the Canadian national team have finished fourth at the Copa América after losing to Uruguay on penalties in the third place play-off overnight on Sunday. Rodrigo Bentancur's eighth-minute opener for Uruguay was cancelled out by Ismael Koné in the 22nd minute. Canada then took the lead with 80 minutes gone through Jonathan David, but Uruguay levelled in stoppage time courtesy of Luis Suárez to take the game into a penalty shootout.

Uruguay converted all of their spot-kicks, while Koné and Davies, who was brought on in the 62nd minute, both missed for the Canadians. Jesse March's side, who were taking part in the South American tournament for the first time as guests, therefore lost 4-3 in the shootout and finish the Copa América in fourth place.
