David Moyes says that he feels for Arne Slot after the Liverpool boss was sent off following Wednesday’s draw with Everton in the Premier League.

The Dutchman was shown a red card following his confrontation with referee Michael Oliver on the Goodison Park pitch after James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser.

The FA are reviewing Oliver’s match report and may sanction Slot based on its contents. The 46-year-old could face no further action, be reminded of his responsibilities, or be charged, which would likely result in a touchline ban.

Slot admitted that he “made the wrong decision”, but Moyes defended his Liverpool counterpart, confessing “I’ve had plenty of moments I’m not proud of”.

“I feel a bit for Arne Slot as when I was a younger manager I was always getting involved with heated things,” the Scot said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

“That tells me he’s fighting for his club and his players – everybody has to do what they have to do.

“When you get older you stand back and think what was I doing there?

“I’ve had plenty of moments I’m not proud of but sometimes you have to fight your own corner.”

Liverpool came from behind to take a second-half lead after Beto put Everton ahead early, with their goals coming from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah. The visitors, however. were stunned by a last-gasp volley from Tarkowski.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones both received second bookings after becoming embroiled in a brawl, leading to skirmishes between both sets of players.

Slot was sent off after reportedly telling Oliver that it was a “f***ing disgrace” to let the match play on beyond the allotted five minutes of stoppage time. The red card was brandished immediately after he aggressively shook the referee’s hand while sarcastically remarking “great game”.

“I was disappointed in Doucoure because he played so well in the game and did a great job for the team,” Moyes said. “He wouldn’t have probably done what he did [if he had the chance again]. But it still doesn’t mean that people are allowed to abuse you. If that’s the case, it’s completely wrong.”
