Former Premier League footballer Danny Murphy has claimed Liam Delap will be “disappointed” after being taken off early against West Ham.
Delap was handed his first Premier League start for Chelsea in the 5-1 win at the London Stadium, but the striker didn’t get on the scoresheet or assist.
The England under-21 international arrived earlier this summer from Ipswich after Chelsea activated the £30m relegation release clause in his contract.
Enzo Maresca took the decision to start both Delap and Joao Pedro from the off and it certainly paid dividends for the Blues.
Whilst Pedro, Estevao and Pedro Neto stole the limelight with goals and assists, Delap still made an important contribution to the team.

Some of his hold up play was really good, including the way he played Estevao in to set up Enzo Fernandez for the third goal, and Ashley Cole has previously called for fans to have patience with Delap.
Like all strikers Delap will have wanted to score, and Murphy thinks he will have been disappointed at being taken off early.
“He’s done alright, I think he’ll be disappointed he’s been brought off at 5-1 and he hasn’t scored,” he said on commentary for talkSPORT.
“He has contributed, he’s been a focal point, a great touch for the third goal, he’s been a handful on the goalkeeper to create the fifth goal on the set-play.
“His mum and dad in the crowd there will be very proud of him.
“But he will be disappointed because he will sense chances here in the last 30 minutes.”
Whilst Delap may have been disappointed the opposite is true for Pedro, who continued his impressive start to life at Chelsea.
