A Premier League cult hero's son has sent Arne Slot and Liverpool's first team a come and get me plea.

There's actually quite a few sons of former footballers in the club's academy. We saw Jayden Danns, the son of Neil Danns and Lewis Koumas, the son of Jason Koumas, emerge in the first team over the last few years.

Now there are more coming through the ranks. We've written plenty about Prince Kobe Cisse, who is the son of Djibril Cisse but less about the extremely promising young forward, who is determined to follow in his father's footsteps and who has been sending a come and get me plea to Slot over the course of the last month or so.

Some older fans may remember Maynor Figueroa. A Wigan Athletic cult hero, Figueroa was even linked with a move to Liverpool a few times.

A very solid and reliable left-back in his heyday, Figueroa scored some sensational goals in the Premier League (although they weren't many) and also ended up playing for Hull City.

Now it's his son, Keylor, who has taken on the baton from the former Wigan star. He's been at Liverpool's academy from a young age and has been making waves.

In fact, he made his debut for the U18s when he was barely just 15-years-old. Then he went onto score eight goals in 11 matches for the USA U17 national team.

That got everyone's attention. However, Figueroa has struggled with injuries since those breakthrough moments a few years ago. Still only 18-years-old, he's been in and out of the team at U21 level for Liverpool.

When he did play, he had some memorable moments, scoring and registering an assist in an 18-minute cameo against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Youth League.

Then there was his crucial equaliser against Reading's U21 side in the Premier League 2. Meanwhile, he also provided an important assist against Aston Villa during a 15-minute cameo in the final game of the season.

But he struggled to maintain his fitness levels and that was ultimately his downfall. Now though, things appear to be different for the young man.

There's been a lot of changes made at academy level and some of these could benefit Figueroa. Most notably the appointment of Rob Page, who knows how to develop young players and make them ready for senior football, having created an important pathway as manager of Wales' senior national team.

Page's impact seems to have delivered an instant impact. Figueroa has scored in all three of Liverpool's first three games of pre-season, netting against Celtic, Wigan and RC Lens. He only failed to find the back of the net against Hull City in a 0-0 draw.

That form is a come and get me plea to Slot's first team. If he can continue that throughout the season, there will be opportunities for him in the first team, especially if Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa both leave.

Even if Alexander Isak comes in to give support alongside Hugo Ekitike, there will be a vacant spot for one of the academy forwards to make their mark.

Figueroa now should firmly be on Slot's radar.
