Crystal Palace have reportedly rejected a £30 million bid from Atalanta for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to BBC Sport.
Having parted ways with Mateo Retegui and amid the uncertainty surrounding Ademola Lookman’s future, Atalanta are keen to sign Mateta, who has two years left on his contract.
However, Palace remain reluctant to part ways with one of their most important players off the back of an impressive campaign where he netted 17 times across all competitions.
Atalanta also have Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz on their radar and could choose to pivot to him.
La Dea may have to fend off competition from Newcastle United, while Nikola Krstovic and Tolu Arokodare are also of interest.
Palace are set for a crucial summer not only in the battle to keep hold of several top players but also regarding their eligibility to participate in next season’s Europa League.
The Eagles have been demoted to the Europa Conference League but have since lodged an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, with a hearing expected next month.
If Palace fail in their appeal, retaining Mateta, Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze will get a whole lot harder given the level of transfer interest in them across Europe.
