Summer signing Petar Sucic is ready to fight Hakan Calhanoglu for a starting spot in the Inter Milan midfield next season.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Petar Sucic really announced himself as an Inter Milan player against River Plate.
The Croat had already made a couple appearances off the bench for Inter at the Club World Cup. There were cameos against the likes of Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds.
But after those two relatively unimpressive displays, Sucic was decisive against River. He even provided the assist for Inter’s all-important opening goal.

Now that Sucic has truly arrived at Inter, there is a feeling that the 21-year-old could already play a big role next season.
It will not be easy for Sucic to break into the Nerazzurri midfield.
Under Simone Inzaghi, the hierarchy had been absolutely abundantly clear in central areas.
However, there is a feeling that Cristian Chivu is open to changing things. The new coach is allowing every player to stake their claim to a starting spot.
In the view of the Gazzetta, it is Calhanoglu who is really on notice from Sucic.
Naturally, Henrikh Mkhitaryan will see his playing time wind down next season considering his age. Meanwhile, Nicolo Barella will certainly need a rest here and there with the fixture list Inter will have.
Therefore, these will all constitute opportunities for Sucic.
However, the Gazzetta anticipate, the Croatian international could look to stake his claim on a deeper midfield role.
Hakan Calhanoglu has been the decisive influence in that position for Inter in recent seasons.
However, the Gazzetta argue, Sucic could have the right qualities to put the former AC Milan man on notice.
