Ronaldo, now 40, was linked with a move away from the club this summer, with his previous deal expiring and the Club World Cup on the horizon.

The forward had posted a mysterious message on his X account after the end of the SPL campaign, which seemed to suggest that his time at Al-Nassr was over.

“This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” the post read.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino also poured fuel on the fire, saying that discussions had taken place with clubs competing in the new format to bring Ronaldo to the United States, where the tournament is being held.

That, however, did not materialise, with Ronaldo himself confirming after Portugal’s Nations League triumph that he would not feature at the inaugural event this summer.

However, rumours continued to rumble on that, with the World Cup next year, Ronaldo would look to move on from Saudi Arabia in a bid to maintain his sharpness ahead of what will most likely prove to be his final major tournament.

Those rumours have been quashed, though, as Al-Nassr revealed on Thursday that Ronaldo, who scored 25 goals in 30 SPL games this season, had signed on for two more years at the club.

He has scored 99 times in 111 appearances since his 2022 move to the Middle East, and is sat on 938 goals for club and country as he aims for that elusive 1000 figure.

Taking back to his social media accounts, Ronaldo posted the announcement, captioning it: "A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together."
