Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Luka Modrić’s Real Madrid departure | OneFootball

Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media on Thursday, to respond to news of Luka Modrić’s immiment departure from the club.

The name of midfielder Modrić has of course dominated the headlines across Spain over the course of the day to date.

This comes after confirmation of the Croatian’s summer departure from Real Madrid was made official.

Ahead of the expiration of Modrić’s contract terms on the back of the Club World Cup, the Santiago Bernabéu brass have made the definitive call not to offer the 39-year-old a fresh renewal.

As per a statement across Los Blancos’ website and social media platforms:

‘Real Madrid C. F. and our captain Luka Modrić have agreed to bring an end to his unforgettable time as a player at our club following the Club World Cup, which the team is preparing to play starting 18 June in the United States.

‘Real Madrid wishes to express its immense gratitude and appreciation for a player who has become a true legend both of our club and world football.’

Messages of gratitude and well wishes have since come pouring in for Modrić from across the football landscape, with the midfielder set to go down as one of his era’s standout players.

And as alluded to above, this evening, arguably Real Madrid’s greatest-ever performer has added his name to this list.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Cristiano Ronaldo wrote:

‘Thanks for everything, Luka! It’s been an honor to share so many moments with you at the club. Wishing you success in whatever comes next!’
