The Portuguese Under-15 national team secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Japan in their opening match at the Vlatko Markovic Tournament — a game that saw Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. make his much-anticipated debut for Portugal in the second half.
In what was the first of three upcoming matches, the young Portuguese side looked strong from the start.
Rafael Cabral stole the spotlight with a stunning hat-trick, while Henrique Amen added a goal to round off the convincing performance.
Making his first appearance for Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. came off the bench wearing the number seven shirt, just like his father.
Proud father Cristiano Ronaldo shared his excitement on social media after the match, clearly moved by his son’s big moment on the international stage.
He wrote:"Congratulations on your debut with Portugal, son. Very proud of you!"
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. will have two more chances to earn youth caps for Portugal this week, as the team prepares to face Greece on Wednesday and England on Friday.
The Young Lions (England U-15) played shortly after Portugal’s match and secured a 2-1 win over Greece, with goals coming from Joshua Blake and Reggie Watson.
