Coventry City will be hoping to secure a top-six finish next season after missing out at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Their poor form during the latter stages of the season cost them in the end - and it's a shame for them that they ran out of steam.

After losing Viktor Gyokerers and Gustavo Hamer last year, it would have been a magnificent achievement if they had secured a play-off place again, especially when considering the number of players who had to settle in after signing for the Sky Blues last summer.

However, their summer transfer business, along with the January signings of Ephron Mason-Clark from Peterborough United and midfielder Victor Torp, could set them up for success in the future.

Under Doug King, the Sky Blues have stability and it only feels like a matter of time before they secure promotion to the Premier League, even though next season's Championship will be extremely competitive.

The foundations are there, but more pieces to their jigsaw are required this summer before they can be confident of competing for promotion again during the 2024/25 season.

Burnley reports emerge involving Coventry City and Mark Robins

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich have discussed hiring Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, even though the Clarets were relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The same journalist has revealed that Kompany is open to discussing a potential switch to Germany, having had direct contact from Bayern's board.

With this in mind, it will be fascinating to see how things pan out in the coming days and weeks.

This development isn't great news for Coventry, with their manager Mark Robins being linked with the top job at Turf Moor in recent times.

Coventry City will keep a close eye on Burnley developments

A move to Turf Moor could be an attractive one.

Even though the Clarets have been relegated, they have a promising young team and a squad that's capable of guiding the club to a finish in the top six next season.

The ingredients are there for the Lancashire side to enjoy long-lasting success - and Robins could potentially benefit from taking on a new challenge after being at the Coventry Building Society Arena for so long.

The potential departure of Kompany could potentially see Robins come in at Turf Moor, but Coventry should retain hope that they can keep the 54-year-old in the Midlands.

Not only do the Clarets have an exciting project going on, but Coventry do as well.

They may not have parachute payments, but they have traded well in the transfer market in recent years and that has allowed them to bring in some top-quality players, with Ellis Simms and Haji Wright set to be key stars next season.

Robins and Coventry are a match made in heaven and you feel it would take a massive offer for him to be lured away from CBS Arena.

But there will come a time when Coventry and Robins part ways - because the latter won't be in charge forever.

However, next season feels like a new chapter for Robins and he definitely has unfinished business there, even though he has achieved so much with the Sky Blues during his time there.

Nonetheless, Coventry will be looking nervously at the Clarets' situation and will be keeping their fingers crossed that an approach isn't made for Robins.
