We asked AI to decide who has the loudest fanbase between Midlands rivals Coventry City and Leicester City.
Coventry and Leicester will renew their rivalry in the Championship this season, with both clubs hoping to be in the mix for promotion next May.
With Ipswich’s relegation setting up a clash with bitter rivals Norwich, and Southampton’s return to the second tier bringing the latest installment of their derby with Portsmouth, it’s fair to say that Coventry and Leicester may go under the radar.
In some cases, fans of the two clubs will reserve their hatred for other clubs in the Midlands, with Coventry known for a historic rivalry with Aston Villa, and Leicester are not exactly fond of Nottingham Forest.
But, this is a fixture that is hostile, with two passionate sets of supporters. So, with that in mind, FLW decided to look at which club has the loudest fan base, with the help of AI…
ChatGPT claims that Coventry ‘holds the edge' over their rivals when it comes to rating the atmosphere of the two clubs.
They state that the Sky Blues are up there with the best in the Championship, and it’s hard to argue with that assessment, as the CBS Arena has been rocking in recent years.
Of course, it helps that Coventry have had a relatively successful period, as they have reached the play-offs in two of the last three seasons, with an FA Cup semi-final sandwiched in the middle of that.
With a change in ownership as well, all at Coventry seem to be pulling in the same direction, and the fans appreciate the stable situation of the club considering the bleak period they had that included playing games in Northampton and Birmingham.
Frank Lampard will be looking to use that to his advantage moving forward, and he knows that the passion from the stands can play a big part for the Sky Blues as they look to compete for promotion again.
His brilliant start to life in the dugout means the ex-Chelsea chief will have to manage expectations somewhat, but he will hope the positive momentum continues this season.
With Coventry’s support receiving praise, the same can’t be said for Leicester, as their atmosphere is said to have ‘diminished significantly’, although the loud noise generated in the past was highlighted.
In truth, it’s hard to argue with that. Whilst Leicester’s fans helped the team to the Premier League title when they shocked the world, it’s a different story nowadays, with supporters understandably disillusioned with the club.
Many are unhappy with key figures at the club, and there has been no connection with the manager or players, aside from a select few, in recent years. Therefore, the atmosphere has suffered, and the King Power Stadium is not a hostile place to visit for the opposition.
Unlike the ultra scene across Europe, English fans generally tend to react to what they see on the pitch, and Leicester have just endured a torrid season, so the supporters are rightly annoyed. If you feel your club is going nowhere, and you see the team losing most weeks, it’s going to take its toll.
Marti Cifuentes is the new man in charge, and Leicester will win more games now they’re in the Championship, so the Spaniard will tap into that as he tries to rediscover the feel-good factor around the club.
It will take time, but with more academy players involved, Leicester fans will see this as a new era, and, if things click on the pitch, the vocal support could return to the King Power Stadium.
