One former Chelsea player has named one concern that he still has about the current Blues side, even though things have been going well.

Chelsea are currently second in the league and although Liverpool do have a game in hand, The Blues are breathing down their necks with just two points being the difference.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea make club-to-club contact to sign new Premier League striker!!

Having beaten Brentford 2-1 on Sunday night thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Maresca’s side now find themselves four points clear of Arsenal in second place in the table. But there is of course a long way to go yet.

Nobody at Chelsea will be getting carried away, and former Blues defender Glen Johnson has even been speaking about the one concern he still has and has named it something that could be Chelsea’s ‘downfall’.

Defensive issues

Johnson in his Chelsea days

The former England international says he still has some concerns about Chelsea defensively, and believes that could be the reason that they don’t end up being title challengers this season yet.

‘Chelsea’s defence could be their downfall in the title race,’ the ex-pro defender said.

‘The Tottenham game was great to watch, but it wasn’t as if Chelsea dominated it, they just made less mistakes than Tottenham, so they got away with it, really.

‘Against the top, top sides, you’re not going to score four goals after being 2-0 down. The top teams would shut it down and that’s what will stop you winning the league.’

I think he’s spot on here as well, it’s something that many of us Blues fans are also still speaking about. There is perhaps still the need to add a more experienced centre back as well as a new number one goalkeeper.
