Confirmed Man United XI vs Fulham: Mason Mount starts, Matthijs de Ligt does not | OneFootball

New signing Matthijs de Ligt will not start for Manchester United against Fulham this evening.

With no match practice since early June, De Ligt was always a long shot to start the game despite United’s habitual defensive injury crisis.

One player who does start is Mason Mount, who is almost like a new signing himself after missing the majority of last season with injury.

With Rasmus Hojlund injured, it is likely Bruno Fernandes will play in the false nine, with Mount behind him as was the case in the Community Shield.

Amad Diallo continues to hold down the right wing starting spot, with Antony, Jadon Sancho and Facu Pellistri missing out.

Marcus Rashford starts on the left wing, with Alejandro Garnacho consigned to the bench.

New signing Noussair Mazraoui starts at right back, with Diogo Dalot playing left back in Luke Shaw’s absence.

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are the centre backs, with Andre Onana in goal.

Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are the midfield pair, with Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role.

Basically it is the same starting XI that played against Manchester City in the Community Shield, except with Mazraoui coming in for Jonny Evans, who is on the bench.

He is joined by De Ligt, Altay Bayindir, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay, Antony, Garnacho and Josh Zirkzee.

This means there is no place in the squad for Sancho, which suggests the truce between him and Ten Hag may not be as complete as many had thought.

Mick off at Old Trafford is at 8pm.
