So close…to actually liking Liverpool and their fans after winning the Carabao Cup.
As they actually praised our supporters and the team, congratulated us on winning our first domestic trophy for generations and even the victory parade.
So close…to actually having faith and optimism that our team was getting ready to join the top six ‘ big teams ‘ with steady recruitment of new players to a great squad.
Ready to compete against the best in the English league and in Europe competition, this and every season to come.
Now though, as the season approaches, it has been one of the most depressing and disappointing transfer windows, even in our troubled Mike Ashley stained past, with more turndowns than the pages in a charity shop paperback,
So close…to actually dreading this season and the everlasting disappointment of ‘what might have been’?
If only Newcastle United had a professional board and transfer policy in place to actually attract and buy the players we needed – like all the top teams do.
