Giorgi Mamardashvili is having a brilliant European Championship with Georgia as they qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament, and some information on the links with AC Milan has arrived.

As Calciomercato.com write, Mamardashvili has been one of the stars of the show for Georgia helping them achieve a historic milestone by making the last 16. He racked up 20 saves in the group stage, seven more than any other goalkeeper.

While he continues to make history with his national team, Mamardashvili’s future at club level must be resolved. September 2022 Mamardashvili renewed his contract with Valencia until 2027, with a release clause that rises to €100m.

Last summer Inter seriously thought about replacing Andre Onana with him, but Valencia made a stand. In recent weeks he has ended up on the notebooks of Brentford and Newcastle, but both were scared by the €30m asking price.

According to the Spanish press, Mamardashvili is worth at least €40m given his performances so far at Euro 2024. Valencia have decided to put him up for sale, also because they have already found (and made official) a replacement: Stole Dimitrievski, formerly of Rayo Vallecano.

Back in March, reports in Spain and Italy spoke of Milan’s interest in Mamardashvili in the event of Maignan’s departure, who has not yet reached an agreement for the renewal of the contract expiring in 2026.

Calciomercato.com confirm he is on Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani’s list, together with Marcin Bulka of Nice, but their priority is to reach an agreement with Maignan who is asking for a salary in line with that of Rafael Leao, i.e. €7m net per year (he currently earns just under €3m net).

Milan will want to avoid another Gianluigi Donnarumma situation with Maignan. However, the goalkeeper’s initial requests are rather high and that’s why the Rossoneri are also planning for the worst-case scenario.
