Hugo Cuenca experienced a very special moment last night as he made his debut for the Paraguay national team, and during a game against Brazil no less.
Calciomercato.com write that Cuenca made his debut for the senior Paraguay side after having represented them at various youth levels. He came on four minutes from the end of their 1-0 win against Brazil in the South American group for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Diego Gomez scored the winner in the 20th minute and thanks to these three points, Paraguay have climbed to nine points after the first eight games (two wins, two draws and three defeats) which puts them in in seventh place in the standings. The top six qualify directly for the final phase, while finishing seventh would mean a play-off.
Cuenca arrived in Italy in the 2022 summer transfer window for €400k from Deportivo Capiatá (who have a 10% percentage on his future resale), and he signed a contract which expires in June 2025.
He has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 42 appearances with the Primavera and this season he plays for the newly formed Milan Futuro in Serie C. His development is certainly something to watch, especially given that he was part of the USA preseason tour.
