AC Milan are expected to make a decision regarding the sporting director role in the next few weeks, and a new figure has emerged as a candidate.

As Calciomercato.com report, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and the sporting development director Jovan Kirovski have been admitted among the 30 participants in the training course for sporting directors organised by the Department of Legal Sciences of Unisalento.

For both the course took place abroad, in France for Moncada, in America for Kirovski. It is necessary to obtain a qualification recognised by the Italian Football Federation to become a sporting director, but it does not mean either will occupy that role at Milan.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s recent interview with GQ Italia made his thoughts clear: “As with on the pitch, here too teamwork is the most important thing of all. That’s what I told Gerry Cardinale when I agreed to work with him.

“I told him clearly: ‘It’s not a one-man show anymore. I’m not coming here to save anyone. If you think that’s the case, let’s forget it right away. I’m not here to save the situation. I’m here to learn from others and help them do their best. Learn. Help. Teamwork’.”

The feeling is that Milan lac an experienced figure who can act as a glue between the team, the coach, the management and the owners, who knows how to intervene promptly and with authority. Above all, someone present at Milanello every day, in good times and bad.

By the end of April, Milan expect to close an agreement with the next sporting director. The preferred profile is Andrea Berta, but the former Atletico Madrid man is said to be close to reaching an agreement with a foreign club.

Moncada is said to be inclined to work in tandem with Francois Modesto, the former Monza director with whom he has had a great relationship for several years. Fabio Paratici’s candidacy also holds up, ready to return to football in July after a 30-month disqualification.

Another lead leads to Tony D’Amico, a sporting director who has shown excellent work firstly at Verona and now at Atalanta. There are ideas and enquiries all confirming one thing: Milan are already working on a new sporting director.

D’Amico was obviously a big part of the last two summer windows which saw the likes of Charles De Ketelaere, Mateo Retegui, Raoul Bellanova, Lazar Samardzic, Isak Hien, Emil Holm and other additions arrive.
