Manchester City have not been in touch with a Premier League rival over signing one of their top players and the club in question have no desire to sell, according to The Athletic.
Pep Guardiola’s side are in crisis at present and they are expected to move forcefully to add to their squad when the window swings open, after only signing Ilkay Gundogan and Savinho in the summer.
The Premier League champions are claimed to hold an interest in snapping up midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
However, Newcastle United are adamant that there has been no contact from Manchester City for the midfield player.
They would also not welcome an attempt on the part of the Cityzens to take him away from St James’ Park.
With just about two weeks remaining for the January transfer window to open, the feeling is that contact should already have been established by now for a transfer of that magnitude to be completed.
And that will give Newcastle encouragement that they can hold on to him.
However, given Manchester City’s desperation to improve their squad, an offer could still be made for Guimaraes but for the Magpies to sell the offer will need to be a significant one.
