Claudio Echeverri scored his first goal for Manchester City in their 6-nil win over Al Ain at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Echeverri’s goal was one of the highlights of the game last night . Outside of his goal, Echeverri put in an energetic and promising display against Al Ain.

Unfortunately, the young attacking midfielder had to be taken off at halftime due to an ankle injury he sustained in the first half of the match against Al Ain. Echeverri’s fitness is now a story to monitor ahead of Manchester City’s Group G fixture against Juventus on Thursday.

Claudio Echeverri’s free kick in the 27th minute of last night’s match has created headlines. It was a superb goal, and it perfectly encapsulated all of the talent that the young Argentinian attacking midfielder has at his disposal. But in the game’s opening 15 minutes, Al Ain midfielder Yahia Nader fell across the ankle of Claudio Echeverri. The incident did give the impression that the injury sustained by Echeverri had the potential to be a serious one. But Echeverri played out the remainder of the first half which was a positive sign.

Speaking after his team’s win over Al Ain, Pep Guardiola revealed that Claudio Echeverri was replaced by Phil Foden at halftime of last night’s match due to the ankle injury he sustained. Speaking after his the match, Guardiola said: “Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue after half-time for a problem with the ankle but it was really good that his first minutes in this competition, he made a fantastic goal.
