Roma defender Chris Smalling is a long way away from making his return to the pitch.
The latest reports in Italy are not optimistic regarding the centreback’s condition following his chronic knee injury which he’s been suffering from for the past few months.
The Englishman has been largely unavailable this season, failing to return to group training within the initially established timeline and ultimately needing further assistance from London-based surgeon Andy Williams.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma and primarily Mourinho are very concerned, knowing they will have to find a replacement of Smalling in the January window.
The soonest Smalling is now expected to be back with the team is in 2024. However, there is no exact date for his potential return.
