Rayan Cherki will wear the No.10 shirt for Manchester City for the 2025/26 season.
The France international joined us from Lyon before the FIFA Club World Cup on a five-year deal.
He wore the No.29 at the tournament in the United States, making his debut in the 2-0 win over Wydad AC before scoring his first goal for the Club in the 6-0 victory over Al Ain.
Cherki will now switch to the 10, which has become free following Jack Grealish’s season-long loan move to Everton.
He took the No.18 at Lyon after breaking into the team as a 16-year-old in October 2019 and throughout his 185 appearances for his boyhood club.
But the attacking midfielder’s new number reflects his ability as a playmaker with 10 having a long history throughout world football of being associated with creative players.
Among previous players to wear the number at City are record goalscorer Sergio Aguero, who switched from No.16 for his last six seasons at the Etihad.
Edin Dzeko, Shaun Goater and Asa Hartford are among the other City greats to have taken the No.10 shirt on a regular basis.
