Enzo Maresca makes his first return to Leicester as Chelsea take on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium this weekend.
Maresca led Leicester to promotion to the Premier League last season before departing to take charge at Chelsea. He has enhanced his reputation since moving to West London with Chelsea third in the Premier League table heading into the weekend’s games.
Leicester, now under the management of Steve Cooper, are 15th, three points above the relegation places.
Maresca confirmed on Thursday that Reece James is unavailable for this weekend’s game after the Chelsea captain suffered a fresh injury setback. The right-back has been plagued by problems in recent seasons.
“It’s a hamstring, muscular problem. We will see, we don’t know for how long, for sure [we want him fit for longer]. At the moment it is not happening but we hope it will happen soon,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.
“He is out this weekend but hopefully he can be back soon. It’s probably difficult that he can be available for the Conference League [next Thursday], but hopefully soon.”
James aside, Chelsea have an almost clean bill of health with Wesley Fofana and Malo Gusto expected to be passed fit to feature. Decisions will be made on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez after long travel to South America during the international break.
Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill are available despite withdrawing from the England squad this month.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Lavia; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
Leicester City host Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday 23rd November 2024. Kick-off at the King Power Stadium is 12:30pm GMT.
The game will be shown live by TNT Sports in the UK.
