Chelsea Women have just trounced Manchester United 6-0 at Old Trafford to secure a thrilling Women’s Super League trophy on the final day.

The Blues went into the season level on points with Manchester City, knowing that it would likely come down to goal difference. So they wasted no time at Old Trafford. They were 1-0 up after 2 minutes when Mayra Ramirez scored, and just 6 minutes later it was 2-0.

The goals kept flowing, and it was 4-0 by half time. At this point Man CIty were also leading in their away game against Aston Villa, but they must have realised how hopeless their task was as Emma Hayes’ team kept lashing in the goals.

A fitting end to the glorious Hayes era

It’s a fitting end to Hayes’ glorious run as coach of the Chelsea women’s team. With her team brutally knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona and slipping up against Liverpool a few weeks ago it looked like she would end her final season without a trophy, but the two goals Man CIty conceded after the 88th minute against Arsenal opened the door for Chelsea again, and they never looked back.

She ends her 12 year spell with the Blues by picking up a 5th consecutive title, one she herself called the “toughest” of her career.

“That’s why this is the best title. We’re not stupid, we know we weren’t at our best,” Hayes said.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think you guys realise how hard it is to win and win and win.

“We’ve played significantly more games over the last five years and I think it took its toll on our senior players.

“I almost can’t believe we’ve won the title, I can’t believe it.”

Club legend Fran Kirby came off the bench to score the 6th to seal the game, a fitting end to her own legendary spell at the club.

With players like Kirby leaving along with their coach, next season is going to be a very different one for this team, but this era has ended on an amazing high.
