The Blues have won 13 games out of 13 in all competitions since Bompastor arrived at the club in the summer. It’s a record that is creating new history in the English game.
With two group stage games to go, Chelsea have already qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals but Bompastor says that her team will not be taking things lightly against FC Twente at Stamford Bridge this evening.
“We just want to keep going and keep on winning,” Bompastor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Winning games is part of the mentality, it’s part of the DNA at the club. We never take anything for granted.
“Every game is really important. We want to keep our good dynamic, our good results and the main aim in this group is for us to remain in first position. We have two games to go and want to win both.”
FC Twente arrive in South West London with little but pride to play for. Bompastor says that Chelsea are not paying too much attention to their opponents, the focus is on delivering their own good performance.
She said “We focus on ourselves and on our goals. We want to play a good style of football. We have spoken about the Brighton game [at the weekend] and have given feedback to the players. I am expecting to see my team play a really good game against an opponent that have nothing to lose.
“They will be very happy to come and play at Stamford Bridge without any pressure on their shoulders. Sometimes, that’s the toughest thing for us because they don’t have any pressure, they’ll just come and enjoy it. We need to stay focused on ourselves and how we want to perform.”
Despite Chelsea having already qualified from the group, Bompastor has no desire to make many adjustments to her side’s game plan or style of play.
She said “We just want to continue to work on our game model and the chemistry between the players on the pitch, so I don’t think we could expect a lot of changes for this game.”
