Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly targeting a right-footed central defender, with Illia Zabarnyi emerging as their top choice. However, there’s a major obstacle standing in the way of a potential deal.
Zabarnyi has been a standout performer for Bournemouth this season, drawing interest from multiple clubs ahead of the January transfer window. According to a report from CaughtOffside last November, despite the Ukrainian defender recently committing to a contract with Bournemouth until 2029, the club is open to offers in the region of £50 million.
Additionally, the report suggests that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will both be competing for Zabarnyi’s signature. Nonetheless, they might not face competition from the Ligue 1 side.

L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reports that Zabarnyi does not want to join PSG. The Ukrainian defender is reportedly concerned about potential tensions with Matvey Safonov, the Russian goalkeeper.
The Parisians had considered selling Safonov to make room for the defender, but Zabarnyi’s reluctance to move to the French capital complicates those plans. Despite this, PSG manager Luis Enrique is a fan of the player.
Mick Brown, the former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn, recently told Football Insider that a move for Zabarnyi could take place as soon as January, given the strong interest in him.
“If they get a really huge offer I think they’ll let him go,” Brown told Football Insider. “With teams like Man City and PSG interested, you know there’s going to be big money on the table.
“City have been looking to add quality to their defense, he’s young and he has experience at the top level as well, so he definitely fits their profile. He’s been really impressive so far this season, which is why he’s attracting this interest.
“Bournemouth have some very interesting younger players, like Zabarnyi, who could be long-term targets for a lot of the top teams.”
