Oh dear, one former Chelsea signing has gone in a bit on the club and claims that he was a victim of ‘football business’ and ‘paid the price’.
Not every player that comes to Chelsea is going to make it in the first team. Not every player is going to be a success and stay here for years. Some players will just not make it, even new signings.
Malang Sarr is a Chelsea player who just did not make it at the club, and was actually a very strange signing for the club to make, and they’ve made more than a few of those over time!
Sarr just seemed so random though. Nobody had heard of him, and it soon became apparent that actually, he isn’t that great and is never going to be Chelsea quality.
He then just continued to rot away, not even in Chelsea’s reserve side, or even in training. He was just registered as a Chelsea player for years, earning a wage, but never even training or playing at any level.
When Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Sarr last season, he genuinely didn’t even know who he was!! Madness.
A frustrated Sarr
The French defender said in a interview this week, as cited on X:
“While I have no regrets about joining Chelsea, was I a victim of the football business? That’s a big word but yes, I paid the price. If this exclusion had been linked to my performances, or to the fact that I wasn’t a good person, I would have had to work on myself. But I experienced all that in spite of myself.”
I do feel for him, we wasted a massive chunk of his career and he didn’t play any football. Was he perhaps part of the deal that saw Romelu Lukaku come to Chelsea? They had the same agents. And although I am purely speculating here, maybe the agent said if I let Lukaku come then you must take Sarr as well? Stranger things have happened.
