Chelsea have completed the signing of San Diego Wave defender Naomi Girma for a world-record fee.
The USA international joins the Women's Super League side in $1m move.
The fee is a new record for women's football, beating the previous move that saw Racheal Kundananji move from Madrid CFF to Bay FC.
Emma Hayes recently described Girma as 'the best defender I have ever seen' with the 24-year-old signing for the team that are currently top of the WSL by six points.
Speaking to the club's official website, she said: "I’m so happy and really excited to be here. It doesn’t feel real.
"There are a lot of things about Chelsea that made me want to come here - the culture, the winning mentality, staff and players. It’s a top environment to learn and grow in.
"Right now, that’s what I’m looking to do. It was an easy choice for me."
Girma has been a mainstay in the Wave side since her debut in 2022 with the centre-back also winning an Olympic gold medal in Paris earlier this year.
