Chelsea have done so much solid business in terms of incoming players that one might think they’re ready to wrap things up for the summer and focus on sales.

That certainly would have been how things were done in the past. But as we’ve seen under this new ownership, the old transfer rules don’t apply. There’s always a player to be bought and a player to be sold, and keeping together a consistent group is sell important than the opportunity to upgrade or profit.

That’s why we’ve stopped ruling out moves on the basis that the first team are already stocked in that position, or that the money could be better deployed elsewhere.

We saw with Joao Felix last summer that the Blues are willing to buy anyone – and can make even an unsuccessful transfer into a profit.

The Strasbourg connection makes all manner of moves possible

There’s also the Strasbourg factor now. Any player Chelsea are said to be targeting could in reality be a move designed to strengthen our sister club. Our three loan slots for this season are already spoken for, but that won’t stop moves between the two entities, as we saw last January.

That’s what we think is the most likely source of the interest in Club Brugge talent Ardon Jashari, as reported on by Sacha Tavolieri this morning. The 22 year old Swiss midfielder is apparently a target for the Blues and for Bayer Leverkusen.

It’s hard to see where he fits into our team right now – but he could be perfect for a Strasbourg team looking to upgrade and prepare for a Conference League campaign. He might consider it a sideways step, but Ligue 1 is a great place to develop after leaving Belgium, which is just what we’ve done with Mike Penders.

Chelsea to wait and see on Jashari

A move to AC Milan looks much more likely for Jashari, who is trying to force his way out of Brugge. But this is worth keeping an eye on if the Belgians stay strong. January will come around fast, and it could be a great chance to buy him and shuffle the loans around to send him to Strasbourg – or even just buy him outright for the Alsatians.
