Chelsea’s big win over Tottenham last week was an important one for many reasons, and one thing we noted at the time was the way that the players and the manager were at pains to thank the fans for their support.
Speaking to the media at the end of the game, defender Levi Colwill noted that he and his teammates had been carried through a tense 12 minutes of added time by the voracious support from the home fans which were crucial in getting the 3 points safely in the bag.
In midweek there was another huge test for the fans as they went to a very scary Legia Warsaw stadium. Little over 700 of them put in a huge effort against a crazy home support, and were forced to stay in the stadium for an hour after the game for safety reasons.
So it’s been a big couple of weeks for Blues supporters, and on the club’s official website today it was Colwill once again who thanked them and called for another big atmosphere at the Bridge today as we take on Ipswich.

“Being back in front of [the fans] is a big positive. With the home fans, it’s like playing with an extra player,” Colwill said.
“We need them and the energy they give us has been amazing, especially in that last game [against Tottenham], and we have got to carry that on.”
The players and the coach have to do their part too – start fast, playing with purpose and tempo, and there will be no issue getting the Stamford Bridge faithful roaring.
But another passive, slow start to the game will see frustrations grow, as they so often have this season.
