Manchester United's FA Cup triumph on Saturday has huge implications for both Chelsea and Newcastle United's European aspirations.

The Red Devils headed to Wembley having secured their worst-ever Premier League finish but will now be playing Europa League football as a reward for lifting the FA Cup.

By sealing that Europa League spot, United have now ensured that Chelsea, who finished sixth in the Premier League, will only qualify for next season's Europa Conference League.

As for Newcastle, the Magpies finished seventh, which does not bring any European qualification. The Conference League spot that comes with finishing sixth would have dropped to them had Manchester City won the FA Cup, but as it was United who lifted the trophy, there will now be no European football at St James' Park next season.

The news comes as a significant blow to both Chelsea and Newcastle. While European football brings a greater allure in the transfer market, it also supplies a huge financial boost - something both clubs could really do with as they face battles to appease financial regulations.

Newcastle will now receive no extra income, while Chelsea will have to settle for the comparatively small sum that comes with playing in Europe's third-place tournament.

United were huge underdogs heading into the FA Cup final and many fans of both Chelsea and Newcastle were already celebrating what they expected to be significant European journeys, but goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo fired Erik ten Hag's side to a shocking win.

Just whether Ten Hag will get to reap the rewards of this accomplishment, however, remains up in the air.

Reports emerged before the FA Cup final suggesting United officials had already decided to part ways with Ten Hag, with a four-man shortlist of potential replacements lined up.
