One current Chelsea midfielder has admitted that the club are nowhere near where they want to be right now as they struggle to gain any kind of European qualification this season.

Last night saw them play out a well earned 2-2 draw away against Aston Villa after having come back from being two goals down in the first half.

Midfielder Conor Gallagher was the one who stepped up to score a superb goal and almost set his side up to get a win in the end, which they actually probably deserved.

The Blues grabbed a very late winner but VAR intervened and very harshly disallowed the goal for a soft foul. Chelsea naturally felt aggrieved and thought they had completed a major comeback against a very good team.

Gallagher was speaking after the game and says that they were gutted with the end result because they thought they could have won it in the end, but he also says he was proud of the players for the spirit shown in the second half.

But at the same time, he also admitted that Chelsea are nowhere near where they want to be as a club right now.

‘We want to improve and get better as a team,’ he said as cited on the Chelsea website.

‘We are still on a journey to keep improving as a team. We are nowhere near where we want to be as a club, and there is a lot of work to be done, but the second-half was better today.

‘I try my best and always work my hardest. I have so much to improve on in every aspect of my game and as a character as well – to be a better team player and a better leader. There is still a long way to go, but I always try to improve.’
