Chelsea make ludicrous claims about their sporting directors via latest media briefing

It’s a Chelsea match day and there is a huge media briefing out by Chelsea today posted through The Athletic that is simply ludicrous.

I’ve seen some nonsense in my time but this is up there with the worst, especially on a match day just days after losing their latest Premier League match at the weekend.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea will ‘go big’ for three positions in the summer with host of names revealed!!

The Blues lost 2-1 against Aston Villa on Saturday evening after being 1-0 up inside the first 20 minutes. I think Chelsea fans would have just expected even at that point, that their side were still going to lose this game, and they did.

Chelsea could not score and were really terrible. Even Cole Palmer was terrible, and he was seen trying to blame others for a bad pass that HE himself made. This just about sums everything up right now.

I don’t believe any of this!

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart with Behdad Eghbali.

The Athletic say Chelsea are under no illusions that recruitment has been perfect since sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart took charge but there is a strong belief that the bulk of the work to position the 1st-team squad for sustainable success has been done, and that future windows will be about minor tweaks rather than major surgery.

And apparently it is still Enzo Maresca who will take the brunt of anything as the fall guy, and not the ones who spent well over a billion pounds building the squad!

They say that Winstanley and Stewart are regarded much more positively by Chelsea’s ownership than they are by the more critical voices among the club’s supporters, who question their competence and believe they should bear at least as much responsibility for the team’s alarming recent slump as Enzo Maresca.

And this, the biggest smack int he face load of nonsense I’ve ever read…

They claim that If Chelsea’s form continues, that could impact Enzo Maresca as head coach if they fall away from the CL places, but it will NOT erode the ownership’s faith in Winstanley and Stewart, who were hired to do much more than simply buy and sell footballers and who will be judged over a much longer period of time.

Absolutely ludicrous nonsense briefing. Just imagine if they do not win tonight now after all of that!
