Chelsea have agreed a deal to loan out forward David Datro Fofana, which includes an important clause, just as their transfer options were running out.

The 21-year-old looked set to join AEK Athens earlier this week, but the move broke down just before the Greek transfer window closed on Wednesday, 11 September.

The Blues have scrambled quickly to find an alternative destination for the striker, with Turkish side Goztepe SK stepping in to make a deal.

Fofana will move on similar terms to the ones agreed with AEK; a season-long loan with an option to buy the player for £20 million, according to the Independent.

If Goztepe activate the buy clause, then Chelsea are due to make a tidy profit on the £8.4m they paid Norwegian outfit Molde for the Ivory Coast international last year.

Additionally, Chelsea have included a recall clause that can be triggered in January, should they wish to do so, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Although the transfer window in England is closed, clubs in Turkey can still sign players until the 9pm deadline on Friday, 13 September, allowing Premier League clubs to further trim their squads.

Fofana failed to register a goal in his four appearances for the west London side and has been loaned out twice.

The first half of last season was spent with Bundesliga club Union Berlin, for whom he netted twice in 17 games. He was sent out on loan to Burnley last January, scoring four times in 15 appearances.
