It’s hard to overstate how big today’s game is for Chelsea. We’ve been saying that for weeks now – but it hasn’t stopped being true.
From being almost out of the race for the top 5 places we’ve crawled back in with 2 hard fought wins, and each one increases in importance as we approach the finish line. We take on Liverpool today knowing that a win take us another huge step towards that, and according to defender Trevoh Chalobah, everyone at the club knows it.
“With four games to go it’s just about winning however we can,” Chalobah said in an interview on the club’s official website.
“Obviously we want to impose ourselves in games, but right now, the position we’re in, and how tight it is with the teams around us, three points is all that matters,” the defender continued.
“We need to take it game by game. We are in good form right now, we’ve won two games in a row, and we will go into the next game with the same mentality. We started the season very strong, and it’s important we finish strong also. We’re still in a good position. We need to have that belief and confidence.”

Chelsea haven’t beaten Liverpool at home since 2018, and the players are clearly aware of that record, as well as our generally bad record against fellow top teams over the last few years:
“We’ve got good home form, and the atmosphere we had against Tottenham is the same one we are going to need for the Liverpool game. That would be massive. Every time we play Liverpool, last season as well, it’s always been a battle.
“We want to impose ourselves and we will have the mentality of wanting to win the game. They will be up for it and want to beat us because it’s Chelsea. We will give our all. It’s going to be a real battle.”
Clearly he thinks it will be a battle – let’s hope it’s one we can win.
