Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are currently sorting out the status of two players. Kicker has fresh news to report on Carney Chukwuemeka and Jamie Gittens. At present, it appears that Chukwuemeka will be traveling with the Bundesliga outfit to the coming Club World Cup. In the case of transfer negotiations involving Gittens, Kicker notes that the Blues aren’t likely to conclude a purchase for the English attacker anytime soon.

Chukwuemeka’s BVB participation in the coming tournament was reported on last week by Westphalia’s Ruhr Nachrichten. Kicker confirms this report, noting that the Premier League side has let its chance to recall their loan player early for their own tournament squad lapse.

Today, June 10th 2025, constitutes the final day of a special transfer window created by FIFA to enable clubs to arrange special transactions for the coming tournament. Loan players still under contract with their parent clubs through June 30th, 2025 must be recalled no later than today.

The question of whether Chukwuemeka will be able to keep representing Dortmund should BVB progress deeper in the competition isn’t answered quite yet. The Club World Cup spills over in July 2025 with two of the Round-of-16 fixtures taking place on July 1st.

It stands to reason that clubs advancing to the knockout rounds will have to negotiate further arrangements with the parent clubs of loan players. It remains common knowledge that Dortmund have declined the possibility of purchasing Chukwuemeka outright.

Chelsea continue to maintain serious interest in acquiring Gittens on a permanent basis, but Kicker claims that the London club isn’t interested in raising its initial €35m offer by much. Dortmund insist that the England U21 international should command a €70m fee.
