With only a few days left before the summer transfer window slams shut, the future of FC Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez remains very uncertain.
The La Masia graduate is attracting strong interest from Premier League giants Chelsea, who have made an approach for the youngster in recent days.
While the Blues do hold a strong interest in Fermin, it was suggested that they would not do ‘anything crazy’ to sign the Spaniard.
However, that could change now as ESPN’s Moi Llorens reports that Chelsea could step up their pursuit of Fermin Lopez after Tottenham delivered a major blow to them in the market.
Indeed, Spurs have taken the lead in the race to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, who has been a key target for Chelsea all summer.

With the former La Masia trainee now tipped for a move to the north London club, the Blues could be forced to ramp up their pursuit of Fermin.
As has been reported, the reigning FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League champions would be willing to go as far as €65 million for the Barcelona attacking midfielder.
The Blaugrana, for their part, would open the doors for him to leave, especially if the player asks for an exit, as it would bring them major relief in terms of Financial Fair Play.
The final decision, thus, rests firmly with Fermin, who is studying Chelsea’s offer but appears hesitant to pull the trigger. In fact, the midfielder’s closest circle expects him to remain at Barcelona.
