Chelsea boss opens up on “really tough” moment which had him fearing for his future | OneFootball

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he feared for his future following Chelsea’s 4-2 defeat to Wolves at Stamford Bridge in February.

That result followed a 4-1 thrashing at Anfield by Liverpool which left the Blues in the bottom half of the table in 11th place.

A number of supporters turned against the Argentine following these results, but he deserves credit for overseeing a turn around which sees the Blues in sixth place, and requiring just a point against Bournemouth to guarantee Europe League football providing Manchester United don’t win the FA Cup.

Pochettino opens up on lowest moment

It’s been an up and down season at Stamford Bridge for Pochettino, with the 52-year-old’s future set to be decided at an end of season review with the club’s hierarchy.

Speaking ahead of the final game of the season Pochettino admitted that defeat to Wolves left him fearing for his future, but insisted he didn’t expect the sack, and revealed he and his coaching staff felt lonely.

“I can be honest? I think after Wolves, the home game, you remember what happened also”, Pochettino told reporters when asked if he felt there was a point in the season where he might be sacked.

Pochettino admitted the defeat to Wolves at Stamford Bridge was really tough.

“I didn’t think that I was going to be sacked, but I did think it was a tough moment, that defeat at home was really, really tough.

“In this moment when you are a coach and coaching staff you can feel the loneliness.

“When you feel like everyone is seeing you like you are guilty of something that you don’t know really what that is.

“I think in this moment we felt the loneliness, because we were alone after the game.

“I think we spent two hours, that was the longest time after the game we were there, the coaching staff, in a very small room.”
