The Blues won 2-1 at Celtic Park a week ago in the reverse fixture in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. Celtic battled hard in that match and came out with plenty of credit.
When speaking to the media ahead of the return fixture, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that she is expecting the same approach from the Glasgow side.
“I’m never surprised by the opposition,” Bompastor said. “We’ve analysed them really seriously as we do with every opposition and I think they showed in the game last week that they can fight really hard and bring their heart on the field.
“We expect the same for this game. They will come with the same team spirit, wanting to show us that they have a good team and wanting to put in a good performance. We are ready for that.”
Due to local restrictions, Chelsea will be backed by a maximum of 5,000 fans at Stamford Bridge this evening. Bompastor says that her side won’t be affected by the empty stands, the focus is on the pitch.
She said “We are used to that in the women’s game; sometimes you have some ups and sometimes you have some downs.
“We are doing our best to focus on results and performances to make sure people just come and enjoy watching us play. We have been enjoying the Chelsea fans’ support when we have been playing at home but also, when we play away.
“All we can do is focus on our performances on the pitch, making sure people enjoy and have fun when they watch us.”
Bompastor has won 10 games out of 10 as Chelsea head coach but she says that she has not been surprised by the team’s flying start.
She said “No, I’m never surprised. I make sure that we work hard as a team and as a club to succeed and to have a good dynamic. Maybe people sometimes think that’s easy but it’s not, it’s a lot of work. We just make sure that we maintain this hard work and the right mentality.
“As Chelsea manager, I am lucky because I have a good squad with lots of talent. I have faith in my squad, so this is really good. At the moment, we have good results but we just need to look at the next game and keep our heads on our shoulders.”
