Liam Delap has taken a lot of attention with a goal and an assist at the Club World Cup, but until last night when he was rested, it was Pedro Neto who had been the star of the tournament for Chelsea so far, with two goals in two games.

The winger settled in gradually through his first season at Stamford Bridge, and now is looking to kick on and go to a new level. He spoke a little with the club’s official website to let us into his thinking on his progress so far.

“It has been a really good first season,” Neto said.

“The people around the club, and the structure of the club, have been really helpful and really kind to me. It already feels like home.

“It’s about momentum. Football is that. Football is you being consistent and continuing to take your level up. That is what I want to do, and what I will continue to do. I will work every day to keep doing that and be different from the others in different aspects.”

Winger Neto on overcoming injury problems

After a career which has had its fair share of injury issues so far, the winger claimed that just being able to play consistently was one of the highlights of the campaign just gone:

“I could play more than 50 games, which I didn’t do for a long time. I could make some good appearances as well, although being honest I know I can do better. I was just trying to get myself into a better position of wellness, and it’s been really good,” the former Wolves winger explained.

“I had to take care of myself of more. I got a physio who is with me all the time and has been helping me a lot during the season. I want to continue like that, and even improving. That is my mindset. Now I am much better in that aspect, I want to improve on the pitch as well.”
