Chelsea have reached a full agreement with Marc Cucurella over a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international still had three years remaining on the six-year deal he signed after joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022.
Fresh terms have now been agreed following his resurgence under manager Enzo Maresca last season.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports the new contract is ‘signed and sealed’, with Cucurella regarded as a key figure both on and off the pitch.
The 27-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career in 2024-25, making over 60 appearances for club and country.
He scored seven goals and provided four assists across all competitions, operating primarily as an inverted full-back in Maresca’s system.
His ability to step into midfield and dictate play has become a central part of Chelsea’s tactical approach.
Cucurella’s performances for Spain at the 2024 European Championship further boosted his standing, cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.
It marks a dramatic turnaround from his first two seasons at Chelsea, when he struggled to meet expectations following his £62 million move from Brighton.
Chelsea reportedly rejected a €70m bid from Al-Nassr this summer, underlining the club’s determination to keep him.
The new deal will extend his stay beyond 2028, ensuring long-term stability in a position that has seen significant turnover in recent years.
Cucurella’s development has mirrored Chelsea’s improvement under Maresca, with the club winning the Europa Conference League in May and the FIFA Club World Cup in July.
His decisive goal against Manchester United in 2025 was among the highlights of the campaign.
The former Barcelona academy graduate has become a leader in the dressing room and a consistent performer in high-pressure matches.
Chelsea’s focus will now shift to other key players, with Moises Caicedo also in line for an improved contract after winning both Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.
The Blues are also working on transfer targets, including Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
Cucurella’s extension is expected to be formally announced in the coming days, bringing to an end weeks of negotiations.
For Chelsea, it represents a significant statement in keeping one of their most important players at the club for the foreseeable future.
