Lazio have made a huge leap in their quest to sign Cesare Casadei, as Chelsea have reportedly accepted their latest bid.
The Biancocelesti have been keen to sign a new midfielder this January, ideally under the age of 22 as their senior squad list is already congested. In recent weeks, the management has identified Casadei as their prime candidate for the role, snubbing the likes of Jacopo Fazzini and Reda Belahyane.
Last week, the Lazio directors held positive talks with the player’s agent in Rome, but reaching an accord with the Blues hasn’t been easy. Nevertheless, Angelo Fabiani and Co. kept pushing to find a suitable formula, and have finally found a breakthrough.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Chelsea have accepted the offer presented by Lazio on Thursday. After a few days of reflection, the Premier League giants have given the green light for the operation.
The source reveals that the Italian capital side’s offer for Casadei is €12 million plus a 25% sell-on fee. The alternative offer is €10 million plus €1m in bonuses in addition to a 30% sell-on fee. Chelsea are reportedly happy with either option as they’re almost identical.
Pedulla also expects upcoming meetings with the intermediaries who are working on the operation to sort out the final details. He believes the deal could be concluded between Saturday and Sunday.
