Chasing down another Geordie migration

That was a fantastic win at Turf Moor, the final scoreline reading Burnley 1 Newcastle 4.

Four different goalscorers and even the luxury of having a penalty kick by Alexander Isak saved .

Our hero picked himself up though to smash in his 20th Premier League goal of the campaign and in doing so, became the first Toon player since Alan Shearer.

Burnley will almost certainly now be relegated but they are a well run club and have a good manager in Vincent Kompany.

United are now in poll position to finish in 6th position and with Spurs’ form falling off the edge of a cliff recently, we could even pip them for 5th.

Elsewhere, Manchester City and Arsenal both posted convincing home wins and the title race looks set to go to the wire.

Congratulations must go to Ipswich Town for securing their place in next seasons EPL.

Sir Bobby Robson would have been proud of the way the ‘Tractor Boys’ have gained successive promotions.

Towards the bottom of the Championship. Four relegation threatened teams who could have gone down with Huddersfield and Rotherham, on the final day Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City all won.

That eventually meant that it was Birmingham who became the unluckiest team in that quartet.

Sunderland lost their 22nd league game of the season when they went down 2-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

That left them in 16th place and only six points above the drop zone. As one of my mates quipped, “It’s a pity they hadn’t sacked Tony Mowbray a little bit earlier.”

By mentioning Sunderland, it takes me on very nicely to the visit by the Seagulls of Brighton and Hove Albion next Saturday.

They will be guaranteed a warm welcome at St James’ Park by their fellow avian friends, the Magpies.

I don’t want to tempt fate but with some of our big birds now returning from injury, Newcastle United are beginning to look unstoppable, or should that be unflappable?

Another massive well done to Eddie and the Hotrods as we chase down another Geordie migration period with a European place.
