Benfica are interested in signing Joao Felix and he could play for them in the Club World Cup having been left out of Chelsea’s squad according to reports.

The Blues head to America on Friday with their first game of the competition against Los Angeles FC on June 16th in Atlanta.

Chelsea have taken the decision not to include any players who were on loan last season in the squad with Andrey Santos the only exception.

Benfica interested in re-signing Joao Felix

That decision means Felix won’t be on the plane to the US and the Portugal international is set to leave the club this summer.

Felix, who only joined last summer from Atletico Madrid for £45m, spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan.

The Italian giants made it clear they wouldn’t be signing Felix on a permanent basis and Chelsea are tasked with finding the 25-year-old a new home this summer.

However, it appears one of Felix’s former clubs could offer him a lifeline and The Telegraph have reported Benfica are believed to be interested in re-signing the Portuguese.

The report adds Felix could still play in the latter stages of the tournament for Benfica having been left out of Chelsea’s squad as long as he joined before July 3rd.

Jamie Gittens won’t be at the Club World Cup for Chelsea

Felix isn’t the only attacker who won’t appear at the Club World Cup for Chelsea after the Blues failed to agree a deal for Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea had multiple bids for Gittens rejected by Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday and the 20-year-old has been included in their squad for the competition.

Gittens has agreed terms on a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are expected to revisit the deal later this summer, whilst they will also hope they can get Dortmund’s asking price down.
