HAMILTON ACCIES…0
Celtic FC Women picked up all three points on their return home as they ran 5-0 winners against Hamilton Accies.
Five different players got on the scoresheet for the Hoops as Saoirse Noonan, Momo Nakao, Maria McAneny, Morgan Cross & Darra Dawson played their part in another victory to start the season.
Having kicked off the season with three points last Sunday against Hearts, the Ghirls were instantly looking to build upon that performance and result.
And the Hoops looked in the mood early on, piling on the pressure for that all important opening goal of the game.
The first chance of the match fell the way of Amy Gallacher, who forced the goalkeeper into an early save.
Breaking down the left and being found by Maria McAneny’s pass, the forward just couldn’t get enough power on her strike.
The pressure in the opening 25 minutes of the game was relentless from Celtic, putting plenty of shots on the Accies goal.
On her first start for the Celts, Aislin Streicek almost grabbed her first in green and white, after rounding the goalkeeper.
As the wide player looked to pull the trigger, the away side did well to get back and defend the situation before she could get a strike off.
Looking to open her scoring tally for the season, Saoirse Noonan had a few chances in the opening half, which were blocked off extremely well by the away side.
However, it didn’t take long for the Ireland internationalist to get her scoring for the season underway, grabbing the opener on 26 minutes.
After a corner into the box was initially well defended by Hamilton, Amy Gallacher retrieved possession on the far side.
Sending a dangerous ball into the box, it was met by Noonan inside the area, who glanced the ball into the far corner.
That goal seemed to settle Celtic into the match, and they didn’t have to wait long for both their second and third in the match.
Momo Nakao got herself on the scoresheet for the first time in Celtic colours since signing in January with a superb goal.
After the ball was neatly worked around the penalty area, the Japanese midfielder showcased some fantastic footwork, before striking beyond the goalkeeper to stretch Celtic’s advantage.
Just a few moments later, the Celts had three, and this time it was Maria McAneny who got on the scoresheet.
Having broken free down the right, some unselfish play from Morgan Cross seen the winger square the ball to McAneny, who had the simple task of tapping home.
After having to be patient in the hunt of their first, it was a strong half from Elena Sadiku’s side, who took a three-goal advantage in at the break.
The Ghirls also added to that in the second half, with Morgan Cross getting her second of the season just beyond the hour mark.
Another well worked move, this time down the left-hand side, was worked across the box and finally into the path of Cross, who found the far corner with a left-footed finish.
As Sadiku’s squad kept putting the pressure on Accies, the Celtic boss was also able to introduce some changes.
That included Academy youngster, Darra Dawson, who topped off another brilliant afternoon with her first senior goal in football.
Getting forward into the area, the left-back produced a superb, lofted finish into the far corner to seal a five-star performance from the Ghirls.
It was a superb way for the Celts to open their first home match of the season, with five goals and five different scorers at New Douglas Park.
The start of the Hoops campaign continues next week, with Celtic on their travels once more as they make the short trip to Petershill Park to take on Partick Thistle.
