An important role to play for Jeffrey Schlupp

The main scope has been on the attacking side of things now that Daizen Maeda is free to play, but one man who could have an important role to play is Jeffrey Schlupp.

Jeffrey was a surprise last day transfer deadline signing, and despite not featuring much for Crystal Palace he’s shown he’s still fit and capable enough by featuring in our last two fixtures.

Initially signed as cover for the left back spot, Jeffrey is a player who is well known for his versatility. Besides playing at left back, he also has no problem adapting as a winger and more intriguingly, as a central midfielder.

His capability to adapt has me wondering if Jeffrey could play a big part in tonight’s game, or the tie as a whole.

Jeffrey ticks all the boxes

Our midfield may have players who are capable of opening up defences, or popping up with a goal, but what they lack is the presence of someone with a bit of physicality who can also play a bit. Something we’ve lacked in midfield since the days of Scott Brown or indeed Victor Wanyama.

Jeffrey ticks all the boxes in that department, and it would be foolish not to utilise his qualities in the two games against a side as talented as Bayern Munich.
