His Falkirk side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at Celtic Park in Friday night’s Premier Sports League Cup last 16 clash. Goals from Daizen Maeda, Alistair Johnston, and Dane Murray, along with an own goal by Bairns skipper Liam Henderson, secured a safe passage through to the quarter-finals for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Post-match, McGlynn commended Celtic’s performance but questioned whether additional signings are really necessary. Speaking via Sky Sports, he said: “We were kind of makers of our own downfall.”
“But, as I say, I thought Celtic were very, very good. We need to learn from it, as I’m sure we will. I know the Celtic fans are still wanting more signings, but there didn’t look much wrong with that team tonight to me.”
Following their convincing last 16 win, Celtic are set to face Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle at Firhill in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals. The match is scheduled for the weekend of September 20/21, with fixture details to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Celtic face Kairat Almaty in the Champions League play-off first leg tomorrow night. In between the two legs against the Kazakh champions, Rodgers’ men host Livingston in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday which is followed by a trip to Ibrox to take on theRangers on 31 August.
The season’s first international break comes after the Glasgow Derby, with Celtic set to resume domestic matters on 13 September at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock.

With so many important games on the horizon across all competitions, the squad needs improved.
McGlynn’s sentiments are true – Celtic do have a good enough squad to win domestically – but Rodgers wants to see further progression in Europe and so too does the supporters.
The manager insists the club notoriously do business late in transfer windows, so we can only hope that there are further additions between now and the transfer deadline.
